The dealership was not able to get any information about the situation out of Nissan either. Wouldn't give me a straight answer when I asked her what Nissan would do for me if there's never an update. The last "regional specialist" who called me back refused to escalate the claim, refused to do any legwork at all in finding out if there would even be a map update in the future, and told me to just keep checking the site periodically. Nissan Consumer Affairs has been less than useless about this. Sometimes I travel to places with no cell signal and I would like to use the expensive navigation system I paid for, but the roads have changed so much around here it's somewhat useless. Now I have a 2014 vehicle with 2013 maps that apparently can't be updated. If you check the site, it says "check back after your first year of ownership". It's July 2017 and there's still no map update available. According to information I was able to extract from a Nissan Navigation employee, the map update was causing some of the Rogue nav units to brick themselves. ![]() ![]() Nissan Navigation pulled the map updates for the 2014/2015 Rogues from their site at the direction of Nissan Corporate sometime in April 2016. ![]() I've put an inquiry into Nissan consumer affairs requesting more information on if/when we might expect to see a map update. I can't really imagine what else could possibly be taking so long for them to put updated maps for sale, especially since it's a high profit margin item for Nissan. After such a ridiculously long amount of time with no update, I'm beginning to suspect there is a fundamental flaw with the navigation system on the 2014 Rogue which cannot be fixed with software. Nissan and their dealerships advertised the car as having a map system which can be updated, but if they are the gatekeepers of the updates and are not releasing any updates (while all along they ARE releasing updates for their other vehicles) then they're opening themselves up to claims of false advertising. I called the HERE maps people and the gentleman told me they were expecting an updated SD card to be available from Nissan in October 2015 and again in October 2016, but both dates came and passed with Nissan failing to deliver. It's been 3.5 years since the 2014 Rogue started rolling off lots and there's still no obtainable functional map update. They took it down because apparently there was a problem with it (Nissan won't say, but there have been posts here where the nav unit was bricked by the new map SD card). Nissan had the 2015 maps available for the 2nd gen Rogue for a brief period a couple years ago. As far as accuracy goes, it's always gotten me to my destination, so I have no complaints there. You can go into settings and change this to avoid freeways, or to only use them if it's the shortest route. While some may fault the GPS for this, it's only doing what its being told to do in the settings. Here's what I've noticed By default it's set up from the factory to use freeways when available, rather than local streets, even to the point of taking you on the longer route distance wise, to your destination. I've used the Nav in my 2015 Rogue around town (where I know the route) just so I could get used to it, and its quirks. Most people use their phone or a stand alone unit, which have proven to be far more accurate. Given the poor reviews the GPS units in the Rogue gets, I wouldn't get too bent out of shape over the lack of updates. Ditto for turn signals (I know that sounds crazy, but it's true). They were an add-on that you had to pay extra for. ![]() You may not know this, but once upon a time accessories like radios were not included with your car. It's because they're an automobile manufacturer, not a GPS company.
